On behalf of the entire San Antonio staff, it is with great pleasure that I welcome you to our school for the 2008-09 school year. We look forward to getting to know each and every one of you and to spending a wonderful year together. I have served more than 30 years in the Pomona Unified School District as a teacher, administrator and member of various District and citywide committees and I say with all my heart that it is a privilege to be your principal. This year promises to be one filled with exciting discoveries, lasting friendships and challenging learning opportunities. Our entire San Antonio community-teachers, parents, staff, students, administration, and concerned community members must work collaboratively to provide a safe, clean, and caring environment where "Reaching, Teaching, and Learning" becomes a reality for each student! Our diversity of languages, backgrounds and cultures highlights the uniqueness and talents of our San Antonio community. Working together we can use these talents to put San Antonio on the map as one of the best schools in the Nation. I invite you to review our S.A.R.C.(Schoolwide Accountability Report Card). You will see that we have continued to make progress over the years. San Antonio has met its Academic Yearly Progress (AYP) goals every year as well as increasing by over 200 points during its last four years to an API score of 764. Please come by and participate in our parent committees-PTA, School Site Council, Title 1 and GATE. This year be on the lookout for WEED and SEED, a Pomona City Council initiative in conjunction with nearby schools to improve the safety and cleanliness of our neighborhoods. I am also proud to share that our students are taking charge of their futures by participating in University Scholars- a college readiness attitude that lets parents and students in conjunction with staff prepare preK-5 students mentally for post-secondary education. As an entire school community, we can provide our children with wondrous opportunities to enlighten their minds, inspire their hearts and strengthen their character to positively impact the world we live in. Sincerely, Dolores Villasenor, |
